Description
During the restoration and renovation of historic and traditional buildings, the choice of materials is critical to achieving an authentic finish. At Limebase, we specialise in producing mortars that faithfully replicate the look, feel, and performance of heritage construction. Our W56 Fine Lias Black Fleck Lime Putty Mortar is designed for projects requiring a finer mortar, producing a smooth off-white grey finish with distinctive black flecks throughout.
The mortar is created by slaking quicklime with water to form a lime putty, which is then matured and eventually mixed with a fine aggregate mix of sand, stonedust and black grit. This carefully graded composition provides excellent workability while allowing for precise building, pointing and detailed restoration. The fine texture makes W56 ideal for areas where a coarser mortar would be visually intrusive or unsuitable, ensuring seamless integration with historic masonry.
With over 20 years of lime mortar production and conservation expertise, Limebase products have been trusted in the restoration of prestigious landmarks such as Salisbury Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London. Our W56 Fine Mortar is no exception – offering both strength and aesthetic compatibility for traditional building projects. We continue to use high-quality lime from Singleton Birch in Lincolnshire to ensure consistency and reliability.
Our W56 Fine Mortar is available in 25kg bags, 500kg bags and 1000kg bags. For larger scale projects, bulk pricing and delivery is available upon request. At Limebase, our goal is to deliver breathable, durable, and historically sympathetic lime-based materials that help preserve our heritage buildings for generations to come.
